  • 1K: One room with a separate kitchen.
  • 1DK: One room with a separate dining room/kitchen.
  • 1LDK: One large bedroom and a separate living/dining room/kitchen.

Two Room Apartments

  • 2DK: Two rooms with a separate dining room/kitchen.

Three Room Apartments

  • 3DK: Three rooms with a separate dining room/kitchen.
  • 3LDK: Three rooms and a living/dining room/kitchen.

A 3DK:  Three rooms with a separate dining room/kitchen.          A 3LDK: Three rooms and a living/dining room/kitchen.

N.B. These apartments are not shown to scale. However, all Japanese rooms are based on the tatami mat. One mat is 163 centimeters by 81.5 centimeters (about 5' 4" x 2' 7"). A standard room has six mats. In the images above, the rooms with blue stars are all the same size.
